The fstab has nothing to do with being able to play a DVD, only with
being able to read the contents of a filesystem on the DVD (ie data).

All the DVD applications need raw access to the device, which (again)
has nothing to do with the fstab. So, /dev/dvd just needs to be a link
to whatever device corresponds to your DVD drive, most likely /dev/hdc.

No idea what VLN is, but PLF's xine and mplayer work fine, if you
install the right plugin (apparently it is libdvdread3, but I'm not
totally sure).
