As others have noted, other T40 models can have that
panel as well.  Only the T40p has the 64mb FireGL 9000
graphics.

I have used the 1400x1050 14" on a T23, T30, and T40p.
It is glorious.  I've seen 1600x1200 15" on a Dell and
on the A30.  Just personally don't like the tradeoff
of size/weight for extra resolution for my needs; be
great for CAD or whatever.
