try 2.7.10 with a patch (I don't remember the exact URL, but take a look 
at linux-laptop :

Basically, you add a line to a .c / .h file, and recompile... this
"dial-twice" thing is a well known bug.... By the way... Is anyone aware
of similar drivers for the 2.6 series?
