It should just be /dev/sda1 as soon as you plug it in, unless you have 
any other SCSI or SCSI emulated disks.  hotplug will handle the modules 
for you.  In case it doesn't, you'll need usbcore, an HCI driver for 
whatever you have, and usb-storage.  Good luck.  It's fairly simple.
