Hello all, Claude and Carl,

Thank you for the info. I have now tried the SmartLink modem
driver (version 2.7.10).

I am able to 'modprobe slmdm', but not 'modprobe slamrm'. When
doing 'modprobe slamrm', I get this error:

  slamrmo.o: init_module: No such device.

But I can see 'slmdm' in the output of 'lsmod' and no error
messages in syslog nor dmesg output.

However, using wvdial gives me:
"--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such device"

And using kppp gives me:
  "Unable to open modem"

To me this sounds like a problem with /dev/modem and
/dev/ttySL0, however the former seems to be properly linked to
the latter. This linking was done as a part of 'make install'
step of SmartLink driver installation:
  ...
  mknod -m 666 /dev/ttySL0 c 212 0
  ln -sf ./ttySL0 /dev/modem

Did you have these problems as well?
Would you happen to have any ideas where on th system I could
look for more ideas about what could be wrong?

Any help ==> much appreciation.

Thanks,
Otis
