I have an A22p with RH9 installed on it.  I downloaded and installed the 
LTMODEM drivers and the modem works.  I use a cellular connection, which 
I manually start, for the Internet.  I have not run into any problems 
with this system, but your 600E is the 'only' system that IBM has rated 
for a linux installation.
Overall, I'm quite happy running RH9 on this system.
One cavat:  I have not installed any DVD player software as I do not 
have a DVD drive on this system (next upgrade??) and the system 'tops 
out' at 512M of memory.  With Gnome (bluecurve) running with Mozilla and 
OpenOffice I tap about 100M of swap.
