Yes, post the model of Thinkpad you're using.  If you have a Thinkpad 
with a Rage128 video card, you need to have the line
   Option "Display" "BIOS"
in the Device section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config for Fn-F7 to work 
properly.  I don't know what the right XF86COnfig option is for Radeon 
video cards.
