Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunaltey I'm starting to think that the T30 USB ports are 1.0 (I
can't believe IBM did this to me!). Can anyone confirm?

I guess I'll have to get a PCMCIA USB card :(

I tried to modprobe the ehci-hcd module but it didn't work (perhaps
becaues I don't have USB 2?)

[root@sauron root]# modprobe ehci-hcd
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/usb/host/ehci-hcd.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/usb/host/ehci-hcd.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/usb/host/ehci-hcd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/usb/host/ehci-hcd.o: insmod ehci-hcd
failed
