Hello everybody.
I've been lurking on this list for some time now (digest form) waiting 
for a cheap good thinkpad to come me up on the local auction site here 
in New Zealand... I narrowed down my search to the T-twentysomething 
series and one (T23 piii 1.13GHZ) came up with a cracked screen and a 
couple of missing keys. Unfortunately one of those keys is the "return" 
key--which is a real hassle because I'm a grad student writing thesis... 
Got the key and can't figure out how to get it back on... Apparrently 
all of the T20something series share the same keyboard so I might hold 
out until one comes up.

Anyway finally win-free. Took the computer apart and undid the lcd cable 
and de-installed the screen. However, Mandrake 10.0 official can't seem 
to easily work the video card and could not get xfree working properly, 
but SuSE 9.0 was a breeze. Vid card comes up as VESA so it might be a 
1400x1050 screen. So I've got 2.4 series kernel going and will hopefully 
sometime soon get 2.6 + KDe 3.2 (maybe just get ahold of 9.1) for the 
speed bump.
