hello,

sorry if someone else already mentioned this.

i must have been living under a rock or something. i
was bored and i decided to check for new a ati driver.
looks like ATI now support the mobility firegl 9000
and this is what i get:

[rc@localhost rc]$ glxgears
6457 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1291.400 FPS
7644 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.800 FPS
7643 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.600 FPS
7642 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.400 FPS
7642 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.400 FPS
7642 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.400 FPS
7644 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.800 FPS
7644 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.800 FPS
7643 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.600 FPS
7645 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1529.000 FPS
7643 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1528.600 FPS

[rc@localhost rc]$ fgl_glxgears
1279 frames in 5.0 seconds = 255.800 FPS
1545 frames in 5.0 seconds = 309.000 FPS
1543 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.600 FPS
1542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.400 FPS
1536 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.200 FPS
1542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.400 FPS
1537 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.400 FPS
1541 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.200 FPS
1549 frames in 5.0 seconds = 309.800 FPS
1543 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.600 FPS
1542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.400 FPS
1538 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.600 FPS
1542 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.400 FPS
1537 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.400 FPS

ATI has the driver somewhat hidden. when you go to
linux and then click on mobility, you will get a
message saying that ATI does not support mobiliy
cards. but if instead of mobility you choose linux (go
back), then fireGl and scroll down, you will see a
driver for mobility fireGL 9000 :)

i use fedora Core 1 and it plays Unreal Tournament
2004 (UT2004) demo really nice (boy, it does play
really nice!).

the driver comes in rpm and it is easy to install. for
some reason i had trouble downloading the rpm from
mozilla (i was getting the realplayer prog and the
save as.. did not work). i used konqueror instead to
download the rpm.
