As with all those cars which are "best in their class" it probably 
hinges on defining the class.

I can't find the article in which I read IBM leads in laptops, but it 
may be that is measured in revenue rather than unit counts.  The 
"market" may also mean just sales to business, since IBM doesn't target 
at all to the home market.  Everything I found in looking (all articles 
about the sale) list IBM as 3rd in the whole PC market with ~6%.
