What *finally* fixed suspend for me (Hibernate always seemed to work) was
to run "service pcmcia stop" before suspending - even without any PCMCIA
devices plugged in.  I jusr out it in a script, and now my laptop seems to
be able to go into suspend and survive.

Fedora Core 3, same kernel, but on an X22.
