[ltp] changing brightness in software on T42p?

So, I'm done setting up linux 2.6.10, all the tools, acpi, and so forth,
but there is one thing I'd still like to do:
set the brightness all the way down when I unplug the power, and all the
way back up when I plug it back.

How do I do that?

My best bet looked like the ibm_acpi module with
echo 4|5 >/proc/acpi/ibm/cmos
but module doesn't offer the cmos proc entry.

Any other suggestions?
