[ltp] Fan not shutting down in T40

Hi,

I've been doing battle with my T40 and ACPI in the last few days. My
goal is to replicate the low-cpu-speed mode in Windows XP where I can
leave the laptop on for days at a stretch and not have the fan spin up
despite doing normal things (reading mail in putty, using Firebird,
etc).

In Linux I've tried 2.6.2-mm1, and tried going into the 600Mhz mode with
87% throttling (thanks to Alex for pointing out the throttling thing).
The fan then will only kick in around 35C, but never shuts off. I've
seen the temperature drop as low as 26C, with the fan madly blowing out
cold air.

Any ideas?

Other laptop people (e.g. some Dells) can manually turn off the
fan, but the fan module doesn't seem to work on the T40. Is that an
implementation issue or due to hardware constraints?

Thanks,
