in /boot/grub/menu.lst (i think that is the right files name ! :-) ) add
this to the boot line:

apci=oldboot this will get the Fn key working and the battery monitor
(power management )working when running suse 9.
the line should look like this:

kernel (hd0,2)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 vga=0x317 splash=silent desktop
hdc=ide-scsi hdclun=0 showopts acpi=oldboot

i don't know if your linux boot line will look different the key is that
acpi=oldboot at the end.
I have seen this work on t40p, t41p, and the r50p. take care in changing
this file!

cheers
