Same here (T23, USB mouse).

It might be the builtin screen blanking rather than XFree86.  Try

  tpctl --pm-timer-mode-blank-display=3Ddisable

I'm going to try it myself, but as I do not use a USB keyboard, I only
notice this screen blanking when reading something long in Mozilla,
as I usually use the wheel on an external USB mouse.
