[ltp] pcmcia troubles with a TP 600

I have a TP600 with oldish (~1999) bios.  I'm trying to use a SMC2835W
wifi card with it.  With a 2.6.2 kernel, when I insert it, I get 
"PCI: ...  has unknown device type 7f, ignoring" 
With a 2.4 kernel, it comes up with a vendor ID of ffff.  I've
observed the same behavior with a new netgear wg511 card as well.  It
seems like a bios/config problem.

I'm going to try upgrading to BIOS IBET54WW and grab ps2.exe and see
what I can do there.

Any (other) ideas?
