[ltp] R40/2722 2.6.3 - hdparm DMA problems

I can not seem to get DMA running on my R40/2722 using the hdparm -d 
1 /dev/hda command.

>/dev/hda:
> setting using_dma to 1 (on)
> HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
> using_dma    =  0 (off)

It works fine using a vanilla 2.6.1 kernel but not with a vanilla 2.6.2/2.6.3 
kernels compiled from source.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
