I'm running Debian 3.0r2 with kernel 2.4.24 on my T40. Its builtin
modem works well with a driver from

  http://www.smlink.com

(I am actually using a Debian package of it.) Check out the support
page at the site to find the driver.

Good luck,

  Shinichi
