Don't have experiences with that but i recently read on the ibm page
that the R50p models have a new display generation that IBM markets as
FlexiView, with 25-50% more brightness and 170° viewing angle.

I'm a bit unsatisfied still with my T23s display, it lacks contrast in
the range of very bright colors (very light grey is hard to distinguish
from white). Seems to be a common thing for IBM TFTs, my former 570 had
the same problem. My NEC standalone TFT (quite old one) is better in
this matter. But maybe the T40s are already better?

Andre.

PS: Could it be that IBM is dropping the A series? Would make sens to me
since i always asked myself where the point of having R, G and A series,
which all have kind of the same target. The IBM page doesn't list the a
series anymore in the model list (only on the navi frame) and if you
click on it they say there are no models available.
