TDK makes an external DVD writer that is USB2.0 and Firewire compatible. I
don't own one so I can't vouch for it. But it's not a multi-purpose
enclosure if that's what you're looking for.

Is there any way to do the same with the DVD-writer drive?
Are there specific properties of the drive and/or the enclosure to look for
to
make this happen?

Thanks,
