There must be some confusion here: it is not
ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface)
which causes the power-off trouble but
APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller)
To disable it, add the option "nolapic" to the append
line in /etc/lilo.conf.
