I bought direct from IBM, and was happy with the service. But IBM was also
the cheapest source for me.

I think warranty support would be the same regardless of whether you
bought it from IBM or an authorized dealer. So, as long as the other
stores you are considering are authorized dealers, that should not be an
issue.

One advantage of buying from IBM direct (IIRC, and at least in the US) is
that they allow you to return the machine for a full refund in the first
30 days. Some stores do not allow returns at all. Others might charge a
restocking fee. (Not that I'd want to return my Thinkpad, though!)
