[ltp] 770 TP: Backlight or Inverter?

Yesterday on eBay someone was selling replacement backlights for 770 TPs
with a 13.3" screen. In his listing he claimed that replacing the backlight
would fix 90% of "dark screen" and flashing screen problems.

I e-mailed him, saying that I thought most of this type of problem was due
to a bad inverter board instead. He replied, disagreeing with me, saying
that essentially the backlight tube was responsible for such problems
and that a bad backlight would cause the inverter board to go bad.

I'm suspicious of this guy's assertions, but I don't have the technical
expertise to refute him. I've had mixed success with replacing inverter
boards on 770 TPs, but I just don't know. . . .

Is there anybody here from IBM who can provide a definitive answer? That
would be helpful, since this seems to be a fairly common problem with
the 13.3" 770 TP.
