[ltp] X randomly dies when x40 running on batteries

Frequently  my X session dies and I have the impression that it happens
only when I'm running on battery power.

/var/log/messages says:

     Jul 29 09:36:35 boby kernel: atkbd.c: Spurious ACK on
     isa0060/serio0. Some program, like XFree86, might be trying access
     hardware directly. 

I have a ThinkPad x40 running kernel 2.6.7 with APM.

Any ideas? TIA.
