The Captive project achieves the write capability by using the Microsoft 
  DLL's that provide NTFS support. Setting it up requires access to 
these on a local volume, or downloading a substantial chunk of XP SP1. 
It is misleading to think of Captive as GPL'ed NTFS, as it depends on 
access to very proprietary pieces.
