[ltp] USB Drive Transfer Rate

Hi everybody!

I just discovered, that my external disk attached by means of an 
external USB harddrive adapter that supposedly is USB 2.0 capable is 
really slow. The transfer rate I get between my ThinkPad T40p with Red 
Hat 9 Linux and the drive is about 500Kb per second (from hdparm -tT 
/dev/sda).

I guess I am not using the right USB 2.0 capable drivers? Does anybody 
have an idea what I can do to hike this up some?

Any tip is highly appreciated!
