[ltp] No sound on T41

I just purchased a ThinkPad T41 (2379DJU), and repartitioned to
dual-boot Gentoo Linux alongside WinXP. I've tried 2.6.5-rc1-mm1,
2.6.4, and 2.4.24 kernels with no success. Also, I've tried both the
OSS and ALSA drivers.

Everything works great EXCEPT the sound. I cannot get any sound to work
under linux. The drivers load (snd_intel8x0) and I can use alsamixer to
play with the mixer levels, and aplay, xmms, etc. to play stuff, but no
sound comes out.

I don't get any errors, and programs seem to think things are working
okay, but I don't get sound. Also, even turning up the microphone
volume (yes, I unmuted all the channels! also, I played with the
obscure things like Aux and External something or another) didn't make
the microphone pass sound through to the speakers like it normally
should.

The mixer has a whole bunch of settings that I don't understand but
I've tried everything.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for any help!
Colin
