Hi Didrik,
I have the same problem. Installing the current fglrx-drivers from ati
is supposed to work. (I have not tried it, yet, but I am going to do so
on the Weekend) The fan (always a problem on the R50) almost certainly
does not cool the GPU very well. Since the original Xfree-Driver does
not support the power-saving features of the Radeon M9, it heats up very
fast and does not cool down - therefore the fan keeps running. Try those
drivers. Debian built packages are available on:
