I get about 5 hours on my T40p.
The poor battery life semms to depend on the hole ACPI supplyment. I guess
some or most of the hardware does not save what could be saved.

example:
if you use the madwifi with the thermal and processor module, the card
will contiuosly reset.
Or if i use the internal modem, the processor goes up to 1600...

So what i would try in youre case:
1. Try to use a fixed DSDT Table from http://acpi.sourceforge.net/
then compare!
2. Try amp and compare the time

No further ideas. I guess it will take a long time to improve acpi so far,
for all the hardware out there...
