Well, I have a 600e, and for that machine it _is_ advisable not to use 
ACPI and use APM instead.  IIRC, this holds for all the 600 models.

Things might have changed for the better, but last time I checked you 
couldn't use ACPI for anything useful, especially suspend etc. did not work.
