> I want to buy a T42 with a 15" screen :

I have a t23 (private) and a t42p (work). the t23 is 1400x1050 and the =
t42p
is 1600x1200.

I love the 1600x1200 screen. I would never trade it for 1400x1050.

> Can I use theses two screen with linux ?

Yes. fglrx driver.

Add the following:

#ati driver packages
deb http://www.stanchina.net/~flavio/debian/ ./
deb-src http://www.stanchina.net/~flavio/debian/ ./

to /etc/apt/sources.conf

> Is there problems to watch dvd ?

No.

> Is there a video card faster than the other ?

The 1600x1200 is FireGL T2 128, i'm pretty sure the 1400x1050 is
mobility8000. I prefer mine, with 128MB ram. At the time i was looking
(August) the mobility only had 64mb. (IIRC)

Of course.

Any disk you want. I prefer original IBM though.

> What must I do for the internal IBM partition ?

Leave it alone. Also, dump your MBR. (Use dd, it's the first 512 of =
hda)

> On all theses laptop is a testing debian works << out of the box >> :

I use kanotix, which is a debian-based systen.

> with X11 ?

Yes. Boot parameter for kanotix: screen=3D1600x1200

> the ethernet socket ?

yes. Module e1000

> the wifi (b/g) ?

Depends on your card. ipw2100, ipw2200, or cisco (atheros chipset). All
three work direct in kanotix. In debian normal you have to install =
them.

> the modem ?

Who uses those? Never tried it.

> the acpi mode ?

http://www.kanotix.com/files/kernels/kernel-${VER}.zip --> in there is
install-acpi-modules.sh, works like a dream

> Do you have other advices to give me ?

Buy this notebook. It is heaven on earth.

Then ask more questions.

I thought you had to buy from a certain place, with those three models?

> Thanks a lot.

Any time.
