Ok I've gotten a little farther;

First I was getting an error that said nsc-ircc wrong chip version, and I
did this: http://lpn.rnbhq.org/R31/irda-2.4.19.txt

Now the driver seems to load and I get this:

Sep 10 10:11:39 hormiga kernel: IrDA: Registered device irda0
Sep 10 10:11:39 hormiga kernel: nsc-ircc, Found dongle: No dongle
connected
Sep 10 10:11:39 hormiga kernel: nsc-ircc, Found chip at base=0x02e Sep 10
10:11:39 hormiga kernel: nsc-ircc, driver loaded (Dag Brattli) Sep 10
10:11:39 hormiga kernel: nsc_ircc_open(), can't get iobase of 0xffff
Sep 10 10:16:48 hormiga kernel: IrCOMM protocol (Dag Brattli)
Sep 10 10:16:49 hormiga irattach: tcgetattr: Input/output error
Sep 10 10:16:49 hormiga irattach: Stopping device /dev/ttyS1
Sep 10 10:16:49 hormiga irattach: ioctl(SIOCGIFFLAGS): No such device
Sep 10 10:16:49 hormiga irattach: exiting ...

I've googled the iobase issue and cant seem to find anyone else getting
0xffff results..
