Yes, thats right and it seems at least for vmware4 this solves the 
problem. At first, I killed the fb completely.
One more question, because searching via google did not bring satisfying 
results on this question:

is it framebuffer console per se or just the color depth? Does it depend 
on a specific fb-module or is this independent from the modules that is 
used?
