for suspend you should try the swsusp2 patches and suspending via the
hibernate-script from the same website.

ibm-acpi would be a good idea, because it gives you some more
acpi-events to handle, for example there is an event generated if you
pull out the lever to pull out the ultrabay-drive and one if you insert
it again.

there is also handling-stuff for the docking-station
