Did you upgrade your kernel at the same time? I suspect that this might
have to do something with the C4 cpu state, since I first noticed some
noise similar to the on you describe after the upgrade to 2.6.11. At the
same time, an additional C4 state appeared.

I also heard the same noise produced by a different notebook (from Dell).

But what's really strange is that at the moment I don't see the C4
anymore, there's only C1..C3 (and no noise).

Does anybody know what this new C4 state actually is?
