[ltp] XFree4.5.0 - unresponsive keyboard

Hi,

Without entering in the Xfree vs. XOrg debate, I have got an 
unresponsive keyboard on my R40
by updating to XFree 4.5.0 (Mandrake 10.0).  "X" starts correctly, mouse 
+ touchpad work, and
the login screen appears.  But it is somewhat difficult to login without 
being able to type...
What I tried (appart from reading XFree manuals and searching on the 
web) was to use
the old vs. the new configuration files, every time the result is the 
same...I tried the "keyboard"
and the "kbd" driver both without getting different results...and now I 
run out of ideas.

Has anybody any suggestion how to chase away the dead keyboard?
