My experinece:  WinXP -> AccessIBM -> CreateRecoveryDiscs and followed 
the instructions to burn about 7 CDs.  And then I upgraded to a new 
emtpy 80GB drive and restored the 7CDs onto the new drives, and XP ran 
just as smooth as  on the old 40GB drive.

You'll also need to set in the BIOS that the "predesktop area" need to 
be accessible before you could perform any write operations on it.

So if you've verified that the 7 backup CD really works, then you are 
safe to remove the predesktop area to play around with Linux and other 
repartitioning tools.

But be reminded that Restore will wipe out the entier drive content, 
including the Linux partition.
