Wow - works on my T40 too, and I've never ever seen (or heard!) the
fan go so fast - it's only ever gone from 3500 to 4000 before, even
at the most extreme temperatures - this patch makes it go to 5500
when I want. This will really help when I think I'm close to
potential thermal shutdown, as others are confirming. Thanks Thomas!

Why don't our thinkpad fans go that fast on their own when near
critical temperature? It seems to be a solution to me.

Borislav, do you feel this is safe to incorporate into ibm-acpi
proper?

Paul - can you conditionally include this in your ibm_manage_fan
script if the full-speed option works? This would potentially solve
all the overheating problems many are seeing here due to inadequacies
elsewhere, if not only it shut off the fan at low temperature, but
optionally pushed it so high when it gets near critical.

ibm-acpi + Paul's ibm_manage_fan go really well together. Any thought
of incorporating the script in ibm_acpi release tarballs?
