I also tried his script, changing the line cat /proc/bus/pci/00/02.0 > /tmp/ to cat /proc/bus/pci/01/00.0 > /tmp/ since lspci shows the nVidia VGA controller at 0000:01:00.0

Daniel,

The kernel version of ibm-acpi was recently lagging behind by a few
versions; 0.8 vs 0.11 from memory. What does
$ cat /proc/acpi/ibm/driver
tell you?

If you don't have 0.11, you should get the software from
http://ibm-acpi.sourceforge.net/, disable ibm-acpi in the kernel config,
recompile the kernel, then apply 0.11.

If you are running Gentoo or Debian, there are packages to do the
install, but you must have your kernel compiled _without_ ibm-acpi
support. Read the README in the ibm-acpi tarball for details.
