Nice, what a way to introduce myself. I've subscribed to this list just 
today, and I can already be of help.

The sound on 600e works. I have a 600, which has a different chip so I can't 
remember the details for the 600e. What I remember, though, is that the 
chip is apparently mis-detected, so be careful you try the right driver. 
cs4232 shouldn't be what you want anyway, that's the ISA-based chip on my 
600. You have PCI IIRC.
A quick google will easily get you the info you need, though. If you have 
trouble finding it, ask again and I'll try to dig up an URL.

Something else is wrong here. Not only the wrong driver, but something is 
amiss with your kernel/module configuration.
