[ltp] T30: Video frequency to external projector?

I have a problem that's been bugging me for a while:

I now know how to get my T30 talking to an external projector without too
many issues (I dont connect the projector until I am all booted up, and
switched X to 1024x768 using xrandr), but I seem to have an issue with the
frequency of the output to the projector.

I use FC3, with xorg-x11-6.8.1-12.FC3.21. Though the output is correct at
1024x768, it seems to be the wrong frequency, be cause I invariably end up
with a stretched or distorted image on the projector, usually wider than
it should be. Any true 1024x768 notebooks display normally, but when I
switch to 1024x768 from 1400x1050, the display is ok in height, but too
wide, resulting in the sides of teh image to be cut off.

xrandr reports:

 SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
 0 1400 x 1050 ( 474mm x 356mm ) 50
 1 1280 x 1024 ( 474mm x 356mm ) 50
 2 1280 x 960 ( 474mm x 356mm ) 50
 3 1152 x 864 ( 474mm x 356mm ) 50
*4 1024 x 768 ( 474mm x 356mm ) *50

Any tweaking that I can do to fix this issue? My xorg.conf is at
http://atulchitnis.net/tmp/xorg.conf

lspci says

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7
LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: IBM ThinkPad T30
Flags: bus master, stepping, fast Back2Back, 66Mhz, medium devsel,
latency 66, IRQ 5
        Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
        I/O ports at 3000 [size=256]
        Memory at d0100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
        Capabilities: [58] AGP version 2.0
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

Is there anything I should be looking for in the config?

TIA
