I have been using dd to back up my disk, and it always works with Win98, and
has never worked with Windows 2000. The really odd thing is that the
*original* copy of Windows 2000 stops working (the login dialog accepts the
entries, disappears, then presents again, endlessly)!

My next machine is likely to have XP on it, and work uses XP so I may leave it
on, so I would be happy to hear of a way to clone XP to another disk that
works.

But I suspect the structure of 2000 & XP is different in some way from 98, et
al, such that something tricky is required.
