Thanks again, Donald.  I doubt the CD is defective or was burned
incorrectly.  I've used it successfully on almost any other systems
I've tried it on, but sadly none were laptops, except on another T21
- -- those that come with 30-GB hard-disk, since mine has a 20-GB one --
which I tested when I was buying a laptop.

The possibility of IDE controllers being defective seems spare to me,
but I'll check nonetheless.
