Try "depmod -a". "man depmod".

FWIW, they generally say Sid is not suitable for those who don't know 
how to fix things when they're broken. You can use selected Sid 
packages where needed, on Sarge, and things will be much more stable, 
and better supported for you if not.

Debian has tools to help with these things; see module-assistant(8) and 
make-kpkg(8).
