You might have problems using a USB switch.  I recommend the old unplug 
from one system and plugging it into the other.

USB 1.1.  I had to use a PC Card adapter to get USB 2.0.  I decided to 
go with the Adaptec DUO-Connect card.  I would definitely ask about 
return policies before buying.

By the time the DL war ends, something else will come along.  The DVD+ 
and DVD- war is not over (yet) and we are dealing with two different new 
'standards'.   Sorta like Beta and VHS....and we know who won that 
battle but who owns a video tape unit now (unless you have an extensive 
tape collection like mine.)

I would get a drive that records at 8x speed for DVD, supports both DVD+ 
and DVD- and records at least 48x onto CD-R media.
