You need to call within 30 days of your purchase of the laptop in
order to get the recovery CDs for free. After that, they'll probably
charge you something.

AFAIK, the CDs you burn are the same or nearly similar to the ones you
can order.

If you are able to call to get the CDs for free, make sure to remind
the operator that you're wanting to get them for free.

I have a set of discs for a T42 (silvers from IBM and burned from the
recovery partition), but I suppose it's illegal to distribute them :-/
