Have a look in your /etc/acpi. There are scripts called when recieving 
acpi events. Sometimes, there is a "sleep" is sleep or resume scripts. 
If your suspend or resume is dramatically long, you should try to find 
which of those lines requires so much time. Maybe a rmmod. For exemple, 
ndiswrapper is known to take a long time to load/unload (whenever this 
works) :)
