[ltp] mwave on tp600e makes me crazy

Perhaps an IRQ conflict between the Mwave modem and a serial port?

Try rebuilding the debian package from source

   apt-get source mwavem
   cd mwavem-1.0.4
   debuild

and installing the result.  Let us know if this makes a difference.
