Unmounting any USB hard drives would probably be wise before putting
your laptop to sleep - especially since USB obviously isn't bahaving
properly over a suspend/resume cycle.

Having said that, I don't have a USB hard drive or webcam to experiment
with.  I've only got a mouse, CDRW drive, and printer. No problems with
unloading/loading the USB modules with those devices.
